The Main Building makes all construction faster: about 3.6% per level, so level 20 builds in half the time. It is needed for many other buildings.

It stands on its own place in the village centre. Every village starts with level 1.
At level 10 you can demolish buildings. See Demolishing.
Many buildings need it: level 3 for Barracks, Academy and Marketplace; level 5 for Residence, Palace and Workshop; level 10 for Town Hall and Treasury.
