Both train settlers and chiefs and give expansion slots. You can have only one Palace, and the village with it becomes your capital. A village has either a Residence or a Palace, never both.

SpecialMakes this village your capital

Loyalty: the village's loyalty regrows 1% per hour per Residence/Palace level (x100 on this world). Without either, loyalty does not regrow.

Defence: the village gets 2 x level x level extra base defence (level 10: +200, level 20: +800).

Enemy chiefs cannot lower loyalty while a Residence or Palace stands. Attackers must destroy it with catapults first.

Settlers and chiefs train 10% faster per level, like in the Barracks.
